Checking in with Brady

Brady Doxey isn’t a completely new face with the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs, having been part of our league winning team over the last few months of the 2017/18 season.

After a season back with the Sutton Sting, Brady has been a permanent part of the team this year and has really stepped up whenever called upon and is on standby for the GB under 20s squad for January.

We caught up with Brady to find out about his start in hockey, his career so far and his plans for the future:

“I first started skating when I was 9 years old. I saw some advertisements for a team at Sutton and from there I wanted to play hockey. I had seen ice hockey - I watched Nottingham Panthers as my mum’s friend supported them and this influenced me to play.

“I’ve played for Sutton pretty much all my career. I was fortunate to get in the Steeldogs prospect camp and I did well in that and got asked to train with the Steeldogs. From there, Morgs said he liked the way I skated and played so I got a chance with the Dogs. I was lucky enough to be a part of the championship winning team for Sheffield and for Sutton that year - a very special year!

“Because I have played for two teams, it meant I got more ice time and a chance to develop. There’s a real difference in standard between junior and senior hockey. I’m enjoying the senior game and I feel I’m developing my confidence in game situations.

“I’m a first-year student at Leeds Beckett University, my course is Sports Therapy. It’s hard work combining training and playing hockey as I’m living in Leeds and need to get back to Sheffield for my Steeldogs commitments. I’m hoping to move into a career where I can use my sports qualifications. It would be great to be working with an ice hockey team and putting my skills to good use there.

“I really enjoy being part of the Steeldogs, it’s a tight group and it’s so good to line up each week with your friends. The challenge of the National Division means you have to be at your best every game and I’m happy I’m getting the opportunity in Sheffield”.

Brady and co are back in action this weekend with TWO home games. Get down to The Pound and cheer them all on against the top two teams on the league.
