View from the South – Bracknell Bees

Dan Breen from Pro Hockey News is back to give us the low down on our next southern opposition, ahead of our game on Sunday (4:30) faceoff.

Bracknell Bees

  • Head Coach: Doug Sheppard
  • Home Rink: The Hive - John Nike Leisure Centre, Bracknell
  • Last Season: 4th - NIHL 1S, NIHL 1 South Play Off Finalists.
  • League form: 8th place - 6 wins and 8 losses

The Bracknell Bees had an "interesting" off season, the release of a number of players in the summer caused a lot of negative comment from the fans, bringing in players such as Robin Kovar, didn't do much to quell the furore, and neither did early season results.

Player changes since the season began have seen Gareth O'Flaherty, Louis Colvin and Robin Kovar leaving, with Josh Ealey-Newman joining from Bracknell Hornets and Dominik Gabaj in from Brest, (France 2), have seen the Bees begin to pick up some wins.

Gabaj has shown himself to have a good eye for the game, and Roman Malinik is a known quantity. Bracknell are light on go to scorers outside of their imports, the loss of Ivan Antonov to Streatham IHC over the summer has meant that his appearances with the Bees have been sporadic, however new signing, (on Monday) Caly Robertson is fast skating with a decent shot, so could slot into that role.

What to Expect: A very workman like game from the Bees, if they get a sniff of goal, the Steeldogs will have a hard fight on their hands.

Thanks Dan!

We saw last weekend that the Bees are tough, hard-working team and Gabaj is a real threat for a Bees team that have wins over Hull, Basingstoke and Peterborough in recent weeks.
