Steeldogs lose out to Phantoms

Saturday night hockey at iceSheffield saw the first visit of the Peterborough Phantoms. The new National Division can turn up any result on any given night and tonight was no exception. What was in store for the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs?

Zimozdra and Marr began in the nets.

The Phantoms got off to a positive start, a threat from the puck drop and it took only 2:11 to get on the board, Hunt with the opener. The visitors continued their persistent play and it paid off as Billing scored on the power play late in the period. Sheffield never really got their engines going in the opening 20 minutes but didn’t look down and out. 0-2

The second period began with a bang and Calvert pulled an early goal back for the Steeldogs, but Susters tipped the Phantoms back into a two goal lead again two minutes later. Sheffield, came back and worked hard to create opportunities but Marr was on point, his defence were dealing with the threats from the Sheffield forwards. Stepanek put the game to bed on 31:25 with a rocket of a shot making it 1-4.

The third period saw a change in netminder for the Steeldogs as Warburton took over. He managed to save all nine shots on him. Sheffield had more time on the puck and in the Phantoms zone, they made Marr work hard to keep the goals total down to just the one. There was no further scoring in the period and this saw the game end as Sheffield Steeldogs 1 – 4 Peterborough Phantoms.

The Steeldogs are on the road tomorrow in Hull for another fiercely contested Yorkshire battle with the Pirates. Keep up to date with all the news on our social media outlets.
