View from the South - Raiders IHC

With a return to a national league, there are teams the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs will play that we have seen little or nothing of in recent times.

We have enlisted Dan Breen from Pro Hockey News to give us the low down on our southern opposition, starting with the Raiders who we play today (4:30 faceoff)

Full Name: Everyone Active Raiders IHC
Home Rink: EA Sapphire Arena, Romford RM1 3JT
Coach: Sean Easton
League Position 2018/19 - NIHL 1 Britton Conference: 5th
League form: 4th place - one win, one loss. Scored 14 conceded 12 (as of September 27th)

Formerly the Romford Raiders, the team left the EPIHL in 2009/10 season, joining ENL 1 South the following season. Since then they have been at, or near the top, of NIHL 1 South. With the demise of the EPIHL, the Raiders dropped a few places, but provided competition week in, week out and took points off all the teams above them - something they will continue to do to any team that underestimates them.

In terms of playing style, of the southern teams, Raiders have a playing style the most like the Steeldogs, not flashy, but hard working and effective and with a strong youth development program.

As a team their strengths are their physical play, again, very similar to the Steeldogs, and fast forwards that can be a handful for any defence, their main weakness is in defence, too many chances are getting through and not being picked up to clear so they will suffer against a strong forward line.

One to watch:

Jake Sylvester, 22 years old and picked up 31 goals for 50 points last season and looks likely to do the same again this season. Good skater with smooth hands, this division will be a good test for him.

Leading scorer:

Blahoslav Novak with 3 goals and 4 assists (after 2 games)
