Steeldogs take the road win

With all teams competing for Play Off positions and valuable points, we are entering the business part of the season. There are no easy games and any team is capable of handing a beating to anyone else. With this is mind the Steeldogs made sure they had done their homework and were well prepared for the Raiders test.

Zimozdra and James were starting the game for their respective clubs.

The Steeldogs didn’t waste any time in getting off the mark, Salem opened the scoring after just 0:56. Sheffield went further ahead on 4:14 as Spurr put the Dogs two up after a short deliberation between the refs. With a few penalties given to the Dogs, the PK units had a decent work out in the first. The first period ended with the Steeldogs looking strong at 0-2

The Raiders threatened the goal on several occasions, with one chance scraping the goal line. But it was the Steeldogs that got the next goal in the game as Ripley scored his first Steeldogs goal (initially given to Spurr). With the home side showing some quality play in the Steeldogs zone, it was a chance for the defence to shine and they dealt with everything the Raiders threw at them. Sheffield always looked dangerous when they broke down the ice. 0-3

The timekeepers had to pause the third period at 40:42 for another Steeldogs goal, Spurr with the fourth. The Steeldogs looked less comfortable as the final period progressed. Raiders kept pushing with Ayliffe getting them on the board. Piatak scored shorthanded and then Barry (not ours!) to make the final moments a tense affair. With James on the bench for the extra forward, Salem picked up the puck and fired home into the empty net, sealing the deal after a nervy few minutes.

Raiders 3-5 Steeldogs

Man of the match for Sheffield was Spurr

The Steeldogs are on the road again on Sunday. This time it’s across to Hull for another battle royale against the Pirates.

But make sure you’re at iceSheffield next Saturday for the visit of the Peterborough Phantoms. They come to us trying to preserve their unbeaten record against us this season, so let’s get behind our team and show some support for the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs as they go all out to break the Phantoms hoodoo!
