Steeldogs take Yorkshire pride back to Sheffield

Friday night hockey and the Bradfield Brewery Sheffield Steeldogs were the first visitors to the new Leeds ice rink.

Gospel and Zimozdra were the starting goalies for this battle of the West and the South.

Leeds Chiefs were on the ball from the off and Zimozdra was the busier of the two netminders during the first period. Salem had the Steeldogs best attempt which Gospel flung out a glove to catch. But some dogged defending made sure the teams were 0-0 at the first interval.

Sheffield came to life in the second period and the Brammer Bull scored the first goal in the new rink. The excitement ramped up from this and the game continued at pace there was drama at both ends. Salem then added a second goal on a power play. The Steeldogs had the luxury of all lines contributing. Good shifts from the young pups and old heads, grinding the puck out and stylish play all evident. 0-2

Leeds continued their pressure into the third period and the Steeldogs had a huge 5 on 3 to kill. Graham scored the third goal straight after the penalties. Into the last five minutes and the Chiefs did score their first goal through Houston which gave the expectant crowd something to cheer. Morgan restored the three goal lead with two minutes to go as Graham and Luka tore through the tired D.

Final score Chiefs 1-4 Steeldogs

Man of the match for the Steeldogs was Zimozdra with an excellent goaltending performance.
