Steeldogs preparing for the 2020/21 season

The early end to the 2019/20 NIHL season was a big disappointment to everyone at the Sheffield Steeldogs.

It meant the fans missed out on what would have been some of the most exciting games of the year, it left Morgs and the team with unfinished business and it left the management with some tough decisions to make.

Looking ahead, the Steeldogs will be competing in the NIHL National Division again when the 2020/21 season begins, after a very competitive first year for the new league.

Following Robin Grayson’s decision to step down, the management team will carry on under the ownership pairing of Ali Cree and Roger Williams (who took on a share of the club two years ago).

Roger is looking forward to the new season and the challenges it will bring; “The end of the last season was tough for everyone and left us with some issues but Ali and me are determined to overcome them and get the Dogs back on the ice.

“The club have traditionally been underdogs and I think that shaped the character and spirit which hooked me in as a fan, and has given me real pride as my involvement with the team increased. Back in December that showed through as the guys battled short benched to deliver some brilliant wins.

“We are sure there is more of that honesty and application to come and we will do everything to give the guys the environment they need to deliver on the ice. We remain committed to giving opportunities to young players, the chance to develop from getting quality ice time a competitive league. We are proud to have helped the likes of Liam Kirk and Alex Graham on their journey from the Sheffield Academy, playing their first senior hockey with us before getting their shot with the Steelers. There will be opportunities for others to make their mark and pursue their hockey ambitions”.

There will be more news following this as we start announcing the team for the new season, season ticket details and sponsorship opportunities.

Ali added “We know this is a strange time for everyone but we are working to make sure your Steeldogs are ready to go whenever the league is able to start. We look forward to seeing our fans back at The Pound and the guys back on the ice, making us proud”.
